Lutein: High-Purity Extract for Eye Health and Natural Brilliance

Product Overview

Lutein is a vital antioxidant found in marigold flowers that has become a global standard for nutrition. Our premium extract is meticulously standardized to provide high-purity Lutein and Zeaxanthin, offering a comprehensive solution for brands focusing on macular support and clean-label aesthetics.

As one of the most trusted eye health ingredients, this carotenoid does more than support vision; it also serves as a high-performance natural yellow food color. Whether you are formulating dietary supplements or functional beverages, our stabilized extract ensures consistent quality and potency in every batch.

Why Lutein and Zeaxanthin are Essential

In today’s digital age, protecting eyes from blue light is a primary concern for consumers. This is why the combination of Lutein and Zeaxanthin is so highly valued in the marketplace. These molecules deposit in the retina to filter harmful light and reduce oxidative stress.

While many substances focus on a single benefit, our standardized material provides a multi-functional approach. It supports macular pigment optical density while providing the plant-based credentials that modern shoppers demand from their daily wellness products.

Performance as a Natural Yellow Food Color

Beyond its nutritional value, this extract is a superior natural yellow food color. It provides a vibrant, golden-yellow hue that remains stable under various industrial processing conditions.

  • Stability: This botanical pigment is resistant to heat and light, making it ideal for pasteurized beverages and baked goods.

  • Clarity: Our advanced liquid forms ensure that the active particles remain perfectly dispersed in transparent drinks without any sedimentation or cloudiness.

  • Versatility: Formulators can use it to achieve any shade from a soft lemon yellow to a deep, sunset orange, depending on the concentration used in the final recipe.

Regulatory Compliance and Quality Control

Navigating the global regulatory landscape requires ingredients that meet the highest safety standards. Our production facility adheres to strict GMP protocols to ensure that every milligram of our extract is free from heavy metals and residual solvents.

We provide full documentation, including COA and TDS, to support your product’s registration in international markets. Because our source is 100% botanical, it meets the requirements for Non-GMO, Halal, and Kosher certifications. This transparency allows your brand to build trust with consumers who are increasingly concerned about the origin and purity of their health products.

Advanced Extraction and Formats

The purity of our ingredient is achieved through a proprietary solvent-free process. This ensures that the active nutrients are preserved in their most bioavailable form for maximum absorption.

To fit your production needs, we offer several specialized formats:

  1. CWS Beadlets: Cold-water soluble powders designed specifically for tablets and hard capsules.

  2. Oil Suspensions: The preferred format for softgels and oil-based foods like margarine.

  3. Liquid Concentrates: The perfect solution for functional waters where transparency is a key requirement.

Applications Across Industries

  • Nutraceuticals: The gold standard for premium eye health ingredients.

  • Beverages: Providing a stable hue for juices and sports drinks.

  • Dairy: Enhancing the visual appeal of plant-based milks and yogurts.

  • Confectionery: The preferred pigment for healthy gummies and vitamin-enriched candies.

FAQ

Q1: What is the recommended dosage for these eye health ingredients? Most clinical studies suggest a daily intake of 10mg to 20mg to effectively support macular health.

Q2: Is this natural yellow food color vegan-friendly? Yes. Our extract is 100% plant-derived, making it suitable for all vegan and vegetarian formulations.

Q3: Why combine Lutein and Zeaxanthin? Combining these two carotenoids provides broader protection for the eye than using either nutrient alone, creating a more effective functional product.

Q4: Can it be used in acidic drinks? Yes, our stabilized emulsions are designed to stay clear and vibrant even in low-pH beverage systems like citrus juices or carbonated waters.

Regulatory status by market

Lutein is the product where the United States is most often misdescribed. The only colour additive listing for it covers poultry feed, not food, and human use rests on GRAS instead. Europe, by contrast, treats it as an ordinary additive with an E number. The two cannot be described with the same sentence.

United States — GRAS for human use, 73.295 is feed only

Position
The colour additive listing at 21 CFR 73.295 covers tagetes meal and extract for chicken feed, where it colours the yolk. It is not a listing for human food use. Lutein for human consumption is marketed on the basis of concluded GRAS notices.
Permitted use
As a food ingredient and nutrient at the levels described in the GRAS notices relied on.
Limits
It is not accurate to describe lutein as an approved colour additive for food in the United States, because no such listing exists. The GRAS basis should be cited with the notice it rests on rather than stated in general terms.

European Union — E161b

Position
Authorised food additive E161b, lutein, under Regulation (EC) 1333/2008 Annex II.
Permitted use
Permitted in the food categories listed in Annex II for E161b, at the maximum levels set for each category.
Limits
The additive use and the nutrient use are separate questions: a claim about lutein’s nutritional role is made under nutrition and health claims rules, not under the additive authorisation.

United Kingdom — E161b

Position
Retained Regulation 1333/2008; E161b remains on the FSA approved additives list.
Permitted use
The same permitted categories and maximum levels as the retained Annex II.
Limits
Shared number with the EU today, but the lists can diverge; check the retained list for a UK-only launch.

Japan — 既存添加物 マリーゴールド色素

Position
Existing food additive (既存添加物) marigold colour, マリーゴールド色素, in the Japan Existing Food Additives List.
Permitted use
Colourant in foods; label as 着色料(マリーゴールド) or マリーゴールド色素.
Limits
Where lutein is used for nutritional rather than colouring purposes, the nutritional labelling rules apply in addition to the additive status.

Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam and Thailand — INS 161b

Position
INS 161b is carried on the national positive lists of these four markets.
Permitted use
Colour in the categories each list permits, within its own maximum level.
Limits
Halal certification is a separate gate; since 18 October 2026 Indonesia requires it for additives and raw materials before clearance.
